Decent Seaside Towns
Been toying with the idea of moving to the coast. Anyone got any recommendations of areas they've been to? Ideally max 1.5 hours from London on the train. Any New Brighton's out there? Has Margate got any better? Folkestone? Or are they all shite?

Re: Decent Seaside Towns
I'd steer clear of Margate, the old town is nice, but the rest of it is pretty grim.

Folkestone had improved alot over the past few years, bit further down, Hythe is decent.

I went to Dungeness (almost by accident) last year. I have almost no words to describe this place, it is like no other place in the UK, if you woke up there, you would have literally no idea where you were.

Its hideous, desolate, beautiful and teeming with life.

Sandwich, it has two golf courses.

Also there is Ted Fenton land.

Felixstowe, to the north of the main town. Lovely golf course too

St leonards-Hastings had a lot of regen... last time I went to eastbourne surprised how young and trendy it was... maybe just the harbour complex we was at

Most seaside towns are shitholes. Margate is no exception.

Broadstairs or Whitstable aren’t too bad.

Or you could try Walmington on sea.

Love Dungeness, there's something post apocalyptic about it and that's not just because of the power station.

Agreed. Something strangely comforting about the sense of isolation there. Shame about the power station, although there's a cracking fish and chips on the 'beach'.
Not sure what's it's like for any length of time during the winter months, but a 10 minute drive down the coast road will take you to Dymchurch, which will make anyone feel better about where they live, including residing in downtown Beirut.
As others have mentiond, Rye is very nice, but once again not too sure about the out-of-season months. Could be VERY quiet.
